| If Japan can win approval it will launch a fleet of Quasi-Zenith
designed to combine signals with the American satellites already
in orbit.
Currently, GPS service in Japan is limited
by mountainous areas and large buildings in the cities. Since
most of the satellites the US has orbit around the equator,
Japan's geographical position sets it up for poor service.
It has been suggested that once the new satellites are in
use the margin of error for users in Japan could be under
1 foot. |
