The following point form list is a good place
to start when learning how to recover a turkey.
- Unless you have severly injured the turkey it will be able
to run at speeds of up to 30 mph. This will make it very hard
to catch on foot, so do not bother.
- If you did successfully hit the turkey chances are it will
not run very far, maybe only 50 yards.
- After you feel the bird has had enough time to settle down
you can begin searching for it. The turkey will try to hid so
think in that manner when looking for it.
- If the bird has merely been wounded it will try to fly away.
However, usually it will not get that far and will make noise
when it lands. Wait a little while afterwards and begin your
search for the turkey. Like above, it will try to hide so look
for it accordingly. The best signs of the turkey are footprints
and feathers. |
