| If you come across a turkey who is up on a hill or ridge your
best bet is to find a way up the hill. Obviously you must be
quiet while you do this or risk spooking the turkey. The advantage
is you will have a much better chance of calling him towards
you as turkeys are reluctant to go down a hill to investigate
a call. |

| Patience is probably the most overlooked skill of turkey hunting.
Since turkeys have no direct sense of time they will not mind
strutting around the same spot for quite some time. If you play
your cards right eventually the turkey will give in to curiosity
and come out. |

| If you find yourself between a hen and a tom do not use your
artificial turkey call. Instead move directly between them,
take cover and allow the hen to call the tom herself. It's incredibly
how well this works and you do not have to take a risk of scaring
off the turkey with your own call. |

| Although there is no clear figure a general guideline would
be to stay about 100-120 yards away from a turkey roost. You
do not want to get too close that you scare the bird off. On
the other hand, you want to get close enough that you are within
range when they become active or come back to the roost. |
