| This
award is for the NHL player who "best exemplifies
the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication
to hockey." The winner is selected by the Professional
Hockey
Writers' Association at the end of the NHL regular
season.
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is named after William
Masterton. He played for the Minnesota North Stars, and died
in 1968 while on the ice.
An annual grant is also awarded by the Professional Hockey
Writers' Association to the Bill Masterton Scholarship Fund.
