Line fishing, or angling,
is the classic fishing technique. There is a line attached
to a pole (rod), and fish are caught with a hook or lure attached
to the end. The hooks are normally barbed, reducing the chances
of escape. In some cases, bait is attached to the hook to
attract the fish. Common bait is earthworms, frogs, fish and
crayfish. Often a fishing net is used to land the fish once
it is reeled in.
Line fishing is also accomplished by dragging a line through
the water behind a moving boat. This technique is called trolling.
Trolling is common when catching big game fish in the ocean,
but is also used to catch freshwater fish.
Mass quantities of fish are caught like this as well, using
whats called a long line. Baited hooks counting
into the hundreds are attached to a single line, pulled through
the water |
