It is the sole responsibility
of the pleasure craft operator to check the weather forecast
before going out on the water. Remember it is not only the
safety of yourself that you are putting at risk, you are also
putting the safety of everyone else on board at risk too if
you do not take the proper precautions.
Once out on the water remember to check the sky for any inconsitencies
with the forecasted weather. If the sky becomes cloudy and
dark it is probably time to head back to shore. The boat
operator must have the knowledge required to operate a Marine
Radio. This is important because you must continually check
the weather forecast even when you are already out on the
water. The weather can change very quickly and it is extremely
important to be aware of any changes in the weather as soon
as possible.
Please take a look at our Wind
Speed Definitions as you will hear those terms frequently
when listening to marine weather forcasts.
