The best way to avoid capsizing
your boat is to take the proper precautions when loading
it and to operate your boat in a safe manner.
- Beware of the effects of hypothermia, especially in cold
waters. Ensure that everyone in your group is as far out of
the water as possible
- If possible stay with the boat, even if it is overturned.
That way it keeps everyone together
-Use anything that you have to help other boaters identify
your location. This can include flares, brightly coloured
shirts, horns, etc
- Beware of things such as dam intakes and waterfalls. Under
these circumstances you may be forced to abandon the boat
altogether |
