Only use approved and properly maintained life jackets
or PFD's (Personal Flotation Devices). A personal flotation
device differs from a life jacket in the sense that it can
turn a person around who is floating upside down in the water.
It is important that the jacket fits snuggly on the person who
is wearing it, however it must allow them enough mobility that
they can move around.
Before making any trip out onto the water the operator of the
boat should file a trip plan wish someone who understands the
steps to take in case of emergency.
Before loading everything into the boat check the maximum allowed
gross weight of your boat. This is important to ensure that
you do not overload the boat. Also, because the craft must float
evenly in the water do not put too much weight in any one part
of the boat. If in doubt leave some of the equipment behind
to help ensure the safety of everyone on board. |
