Beware of the Heat while Boating

Home > Sports & Recreation > Boating

Take proper precautions when dressing for boating in the summer heat. Wear light-coloured and light-weight clothing to keep cool. Bring lots of bottled water on your trip to avoid dehydration.

Heat wave – A period of time where temperatures of at least 90 degrees F and humidity of at least 80% are expected for at least 48 consecutive hours.

Heat index – This refers to the temperature that it actually feels like outside with the heat and humidity taken into account. On a hot and sunny summer day the heat index can be increased by 10 degrees F to 15 degrees F.
