Superferry 14 Explosion

On February 27th/2004 the Superferry 14 carrying almost 900 people sank after a large explosion onboard. The ensuing fire on the ship made rescue efforts difficult.
 
It was reported that 118 people died in the tragedy and 16 people remained missing. Many of the rescued travellers and crew suffered from severe burns.
 
In October of 2004 six people were arrested in connection with the disaster. They were accused of planting explosives on the ship which caused the explosion.
