Compound Bows
are much more powerful, and in some cases, easier to use than
a normal bow. The design of the Compound Bow enables the holder
to use the bow with less force, while still increasing the
power. Compound Bows have cams at their ends, helping to reduce
holding force and increasing the leverage.
With a Compound Bow, most archers do not
hold the string with their handsm but use a release aid of
some kind. This makes the release of the bow more like that
of a rifle, pulling a trigger to fire instead of letting go
of the string. This in turn will increase accuracy of the
shot, due to less stress being put on the archer to hold the
bow drawn.
You may have at some point heard the term "training-wheel
bow." Some people refer to the Compound Bow by this term,
referring to it's ease of use compared to a normal bow.
The Compound Bow also makes it very easy
to change setting. The draw length, determined by arm and
shoulder size, must be changed for each archer. |
