The Spiral Galaxy is one of three main galaxies
found in the known universe. Spiral galaxies have a large
total angular momentum and a disc surrounds a central bulge.
The center is usually a supermassive blackhole. The entire
bulge looks like an elliptical galaxy, and contains many 'Population
II' stars. The disc contains many 'Population I' stars and
open star clusters, and is relatively flat.
The star formations located inside the disc are arranged
logarithmically, and this is what gives the galaxy type its
namesake.
